goowy maintenance & improvements
Update: Maintenance completed ahead of schedule!
maintenance
The
goowy (re) system will undergo maintenance on Monday, January 23rd
beginning at 9pm pacific. We expect the site to be largely
unavailable for a period of approximately four hours while we are
performing this work. Below are some of the items we are working on:
- Improvement to POP3 performance - we have made an update to our POP3 implementation which results in 10 times speed improvement in message retrieval.
- Message Deletion - we have removed the functionality for "deleting messages" on exit. This greatly speeds up logout for users with a lot of mail in their deleted items folder. We now delete messages from the deleted items after a period of three (3) days after the message was deleted - this allows you to retrieve mail that was erroneously deleted.
- We corrected an issue which affected some Firefox users that were running ad blocking software such as Norton Internet Security center. Essentially, these users saw a white screen when attempting to login - and now they should be able to login without a problem.
improvements
More improvements are on the way. This first update sets the stage for us to release some additional functionality which will be of more benefit to our users. Here are some of the features planned for the short term:
- Better integration to external mail servers such as GMail, Yahoo, and other POP systems, making it easier to allow our users to access their other mail accounts through the goowy interface.
- Default view - we will be adding an option allowing our users to set their own "default" screen which they will see when logging into goowy. For some users, this will continue to be the widget screen, while others may decide to go directly to their mail screens.
- Auto Spell Check - An option to allow our users to automatically spell check every message prior to sending, rather than having to manually spell check the message.
- Additional widgets - we will continue to expand our widget collection, including one for Ask Jeeves search and a couple more video widgets too.
Please let us know what else you'd like to see in the product, either in the comments section or by emailing us at comments@goowy.com. We will attempt to make the most popular requests a reality as quickly as we can.
Thanks, as always, for your continued support.
Do you have language support? For example I can not read my e-mails from my friends in Turkey, where they use Turkish characters in their e-mail. Is there an encoding option in goowy? Thanks,

goowy supports all languages which are represented in UTF-8. It is possible that an email sent in a specific encoding is not translated to UTF-8 properly, especially if the encoding is not set correctly. To ensure that everything is being done correctly, have one of your friends email comments@goowy.com so that we can take a look at the raw email to determine any possible issues. The following faq give some more details as to the language support: http://www.goowy.com/faq.html#languages

When is the email going to be backup? It is 8:45 Eastern time 1/24/06 and I still can't log on. Thanks.

My msg flags got reset.. They went from "0 unread" as of yesterday to "18 unread" as of today (with no actual new msgs).
I hope that down the road you have an option to make the preview pane (or whatever you call it) more customizable. I prefer seeing all my e-mails in one list, not grouped by days or weeks.. More like Outlook/OE/Thunderbird.. Maybe the msg list on the top, and the e-mail content on the bottom, but still with the folder lists on the left..
Thanks for a great webmail!

Can you make some arrangement to create auto filters, so that I can divert my bulky, group mails into another folder.
It is really difficult to sort out other mails from those.
Please do this quickly.

Madhu,
We are planning on adding filters so that you can manage messages coming into goowy more effectively. We have a lot in development including virtual storage, integrated IM, additional widgets (notepad, bookmarks, etc). Thanks for your support.

Any plans on allowing the Calendar feature to subscribe to a remote calendar (iCal, for example)?

Gary,
I once had a goowy email account classicelina@goowy.com but I can no longer access it. I need it to get lost passwords from other social websites. I tried going to aol and logging in but it says the password is wrong. So when I go to forgot password it says the password has been sent to my alternate email address. I don't exactly remember if I deleted my alternate email address or I just forgot it. Please help me I have no where else to turn to.
Thank you,
classicelina@goowy.com

classicelina - Unfortunately we have no record of you in the original Goowy system. This likely means that you didn't access your account for a long period of time and your account was deleted (we delete accounts after 6 months of inactivity). At some point AOL will open up registration for @goowy.com addresses and you'll be able to register for this again, but I don't have any indication as to when that will be. Unfortunately, there's nothing else that can be done from our side at this point, so your best bet would be to contact the other providers and explain to them that you're email address no longer exists and you need to verify ownership of your account in another way. Apologies that I couldn't give you a better answer...
